After tasting Diamond Bakery’s delicious guava cookies, I attempted to make my own. But instead, I have achieved crayon-flavored cookies… 🥲 It would be a sellable gag, but as an unsuitable Valentine’s Day gift, how do I fix this crayon-like taste?!
I know for sure that it is not the butter or the flour, because on the same day, I followed the same recipe exactly and made a regular lemon and vanilla batch that tasted right. But with this batch, I swapped out the usual flavors for a guava extract and added red liquid food dye. I’m betting that it’s the guava flavor that might be making this waxy taste. It smells nice like flowers, but I can’t get rid of the flavor. I’ve added some lemon juice, salt, and more sugar, but it still won’t go away. Do I try more of those ingredients? Do I lower the oven temperature? I’m baking at 350\*F and following the recipe below.
