Long ago, a powerful demon named Bhasmasura performed intense penance and pleased Lord Shiva.
As a reward, Shiva granted him a boon: anyone whose head Bhasmasura touched would instantly turn to ashes.
But Bhasmasura became arrogant. To test his new power, he even tried to use it on Shiva himself! Shiva had to flee as the demon chased him across the worlds.
Seeing the danger, Lord Vishnu took the form of the enchanting Mohini. Mohini challenged Bhasmasura to a dance contest. Mesmerized, the demon copied every dance move she made. Finally, Mohini placed her hand on her own head.
Bhasmasura did the same—and instantly turned himself to ashes.
The world was safe again.
Shiva thanked Vishnu for the help, peace returned, and the gods and people celebrated happily. From then on, everyone remembered that power should always be used with wisdom and kindness.
