Caught and still not moving is a strong negotiating position for a donkey. The rows went in anyway, blue cord and all. Was that cord the backup the whole time, or did the day turn into pure hand work once the friend came up empty?
A person with a taut cord already replaced that donkey, which is what the rows show. A mule, an ox, or a small tractor can take the same pull, and stakes with a string line do the marking with no animal at all. Work still got done, which is the whole of #farming when the borrowed help runs off.
