I took my kids camping for the first time this summer and learned a lot about what I should have prepared better
I've been wanting to do a proper camping trip with my kids for a couple of years. Finally, I made it happen this summer, three nights at a state park about two hours from home. Ages 8 and 11, first real outdoor experience for both of them.
Overall it went well but I made some rookie mistakes that I'm filing away for next time.
The biggest one was the tent situation. I borrowed a dome tent from my brother in law thinking it would be straightforward to set up. It took me almost an hour the first night fumbling with poles in the dark after a longer drive than expected. The kids thought it was hilarious. I did not.
The tent itself was fine once it was up but it was clearly sized for two adults not two kids and a parent who moves around a lot in their sleep. By the second night we were all cranky about the space situation.
When we got home I started looking into getting ours before the next trip. There were lots of options across different price ranges. I ended up comparing specs and sizing across different manufacturers on alibaba and amazon and a few other platforms, but I'm not sure how authentic these platforms are. I wouldn\`t want to buy a dump.
Has anyone found a tent that works well for two kids and one adult on regular trips? I’d love to hear what setups, sizes, or styles have worked for you or any tips for avoiding cramped nights and rookie mistakes like mine. #hiking #activity #camping source
