From 20 pieces to 2. The "perfect collection" was a horizon that kept moving, so I stopped walking.
Hey everyone, I hope you’re all feeling blessed and in good health.
My watch journey has officially come full circle. At my peak, I had a 20-piece collection ranging from super affordable gems to high-end luxury. But I realized I was never actually happy; the "perfect collection" felt like a horizon that kept moving the further I walked toward it.
I also got tired of the "mental load." I was constantly worried about theft, being too precious with my wrist, or overthinking leather matches. It was exhausting. So, I sold everything. Also, as I turn 50 soon and reaching a level of maturity, I've decided to vastly simplify my life as I have life experience on my side and feel that I no longer need things to fit into slots, or even justify my choices or existence to other. I'm a "live and let live" kind of guy.
I’ve settled on these two: the **Longines Master Collection** and the **Hamilton Khaki Field Auto**. They’re versatile, easily replaceable if the worst happens, and they just work. One for the suit, one for the dirt. I feel so much lighter. I mean what do I need in a collection? One for work and one for the weekend - then make them fit into every other scenario, or simply go without on the odd occasion if needed.
The longines on a black gator works even with brown leathers, something I've never though works the other way around.
The Hammy works for me because I don't really wear watches in water and never liked the look of bulky divers. In the event of hard labour I simply take my watches off. Its currently on the Uncle Senator bracelet which removes all the bulk from the original bracelet buckle; also tapering down to 16mm.
Has anyone else reached "collection exhaustion" and purged down to a duo or similar?
Would be great to see some images of your exit 2-3 watch collections, even if hypothetical.
