Hi all, I know it's been quite a while since the movie came out but I had put off watching it for aages because of all the bad reviews I'd heard and read, but recently heard there was an x men cameo so thought why not. To my pleasant surprise, I actually found the movie really enjoyable for the reasons detailed below. I know it's not like a top-tier MCU movie but it's still a great watch.
1. Kamala's family - they're great and funny in every scene. I think maybe i enjoyed this aspect more than others may because I cone from a similar Muslim-Pakistani growing up in the West, but honestly I didn't find their jokes cringey or that they took anything away from the movies. Some of them were actually laugh out loud funny, like the jahannum one.
2. Continuation of the story - I watched The Marvels pitch meeting on YouTube - for those who don't know it's a comedy skit series that gently pokes fun at new movies and TV series, they're quite funny you should check them out - and they kinda mention how you need to watch 16 hours or so worth of content to understand The Marvels as it's a sequel to like 3 different releases, but i like thar about the movie. For so long I've wanted to know about Monica, and SABER, and was mildly interested in Ms Marvels continuation. Plus learning about Captain Marvel and the whole Annhilator thing was really interesting which goes on to my next point.
3. The Villian.- Yes she was forgettable (I've already forgotten her name, I keep thinking Dhar Mann for some reason?) But the whole thing about her seeing Captain Marvel as this bringer of armageddon was really interesting.
I think just to sum up, it was a great movie after a stressful week as a first year medical medical student which had some good laughs and great visuals. Yes, it's not 100 percent accurate in terms of physics and stuff, but as a superhero movie, it ticked all the boxes for me.
Again, I know it's been a while since it came out, but there's no one I know IRL that would be interested in discussing MCU with me (this sounds like I have no friends - please I do actually 😭) so I thought I'd speak with yous instead.
