Submersible well pump not pumping
I woke up yesterday to no water in the house. Checking the system I found the expansion tank had zero PSI and the pumptec (pump protector) had a yellow flashing light indicating an overcurrent fault.
\- I tried cycling the breaker on and off but no luck.
\- I pulled the pump to check for debris but there was nothing visible, water in the well is high.
\- I bumped the pump while out of the well and it spun up immediately and coasted to a stop with no concerning noises.
\- I put the pump back in the well and turned the breaker on, the pumptec still showed an overcurrent fault and wouldn't let the pump run.
\- The pressure switch is less then a year old and showing no signs of corrosion or stickiness.
\- I bypassed the pumptec so that the breaker powers the pressure switch directly, nothing happened at first but after 15 minutes while we were discussing next steps I suddenly got water pressure in the tank. I left it like that yesterday thinking we were okay, I was wrong.
\- Running a tap or flushing a toilet would immediately lose all pressure in the 34 gallon pressure tank and it wouldn't repressurize for a while, some times half an hour some times 4 or more hours. Today it's not refilling at all.
\- I pulled the pump again, bumped it to confirm it's not burnt out, stripped it apart and rebuilt it, everything is clean and moving smoothly, bumped it again out of the well, bumped it while suspended in the well and everything seems to be running fine, water in the well is still high.
\- I hooked it back on the pitless adaptor and flipped the breaker, I can confirm voltage all the way to the well but I can't hear it running and I'm not getting any flow at the tank.
\- I don't have an amp meter to check the load, I purchased one but it hasn't arrived yet.
I'm just kind of lost on what the problem might be and what to check next.
