What are your favorite fourth wall-breaking moments in films?
I'm not talking about Ferris Beuller or Deadpool....or found footage movies, but movies where it comes out of nowhere.
I have about 14 or 15 that I can think of, but I'll list just a few to start:
A Shot in the Dark - toward the end, when Clouseau tries to break up a fight, he turns to the camera and gives a frustrated look
Return of the Living Dead - when Burt, Frank, Tommy are trying to figure out what to do with the zombie in the walk-in, Frank turns, runs a hand thru his hair, and glances at the camera
Apartment 0 - at the end when Colin Firth comes out of the movie theater and lights a cigarette, he looks up at the camera, and looks apprehensive, like he's just been caught
The Shining - my favorite. I didn't catch it til the Blu Ray revealed it. The scene where Jack's yelling at Wendy about leaving. He says "Yeah, I could really write my own ticket then, couldn't I?" and storms past her. The camera pulls back...and he glares into it (and at us) with the most malevolent look possible. Chilling.
So, do you have any that stuck with you?
Add: Here are some others I didn't put in first time...
Psycho - the scene at the end when Norman's fully Mother, and the fly lands on his hand. He thinks to himself they'll say he wouldn't even harm a fly and looks right at the camera
The Abominable Dr Phibes - when Phibes boils the brussel sprouts for the locust curse, his assistant, Vulnavia, comes into view and looks right at us
Teeth- at the end when the girl with vagina dentate is in the car with the old letch, and he won't let her out, she looks out the side window at us and smiles
My Bloody Valentine 3-D - at the end, the killer leaves the mine masked and mixed in with the other rescuers. He walks up to the camera, takes off the mask, shakes, then looks right at us, sneers, walks off. #video #movies source
