iYSK that you can download your DNA from Ancestry and 23&Me and upload to other genealogy and DNA sites.
**Why YSK:** Uploading your DNA results to other genealogy sites and DNA sites will allow you to get **more DNA matches** and **access more DNA tools**.
Ancestry and 23&Me each have their own huge databases of DNA results, and while there is some overlap where some people test at both, there are a lot of people who only test at one of these sites. Uploading your DNA to other DNA sites will help you find matches that may not be on the site you originally tested at. There may also be unique DNA comparison tools at other sites that you can use to compare your DNA to that of you DNA matches.
A few of the most popular sites that I have used are listed below:
**MyHeritage:** You can upload your DNA **for free**, see DNA matches and Shared Matches and contact matches (in the app), and build a tree without a membership. For a one-time fee, you can unlock the DNA tools. I love using the chromosome browser. They have a cool photo tool that you can use to add color to blank-and-white photos, and another tool to animate photos.
**GEDmatch:** You can upload your DNA **for free**, see DNA matches and Shared Matches and you can contact matches (by email). The site currently states that there are more than 45 tools, although not all are free. I like using the DNA comparison of one-to-many and one-to-one.
**Family Tree DNA (FTDNA):** You can upload your DNA for free, see DNA matches, contact matches (by email). I have not used this much, but I think there are likely to be matches that I have not seen on other sites, most likely if someone did their DNA test with this site.
**Promethease** is a tool that provides personalized DNA reports by connecting genotypes to scientific findings in SNPedia. It's primarily used by DNA testing service customers, researchers, and healthcare professionals. Reports, typically generated in under 10 minutes, cost $12. I think it is basically a breakdown of traits. For example, one health trait I have is associated with a reduced risk for Alzheimer's Disease. Another trait says I have a 1.6x ncreased risk of breast cancer.
To find more sites, just do an internet search for "upload dna data free."
Please tell me what sites you have found that have been helpful, informational or just fun.
On a related note, **Family Search** is a free genealogical site that does not have anything to do with DNA, but is an amazing site to use to make a family tree and look for records for free. The idea there is that when you add your ancestors, it connects them to a worldwide tree. So, lots of people are working on their part of the tree. The bad side is that sometimes people make changes you do not agree with, so it's best to have your own tree somewhere safe where only you can edit it (e.g., Ancestry).
