''Mephisto'' , digital painting, Álvaro Fernández González
\\[\[ NO AI \]\]\] New painting! Mephisto: one of the most powerful and manipulative beings in the Marvel Universe, based on the classic demon from the German Faust legend. Mephistopheles is a folkloric/mythological figure who was first brought to the stage in plays such as "The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus" (1592) by Christopher Marlowe and the renowned "Faust" (1808–1832) by Goethe. In 1968, Stan Lee and John Buscema introduced this new supervillain into Marvel Comics ("Silver Surfer" #3 ), preserving not only the name, but also his deceitful and malevolent nature, as well as the iconic red color of his design. I hope that one day we'll get to see Sacha Baron Cohen with a look closer to this version, as his debut in the MCU ("Ironheart", 2025) was a bit disappointing.
And remember: if you ever run into a man dressed in red offering you incredible things in exchange for your soul, pepper-spray him in the eyes.
