How to refinish or update fake plastic/resin stone around electric fireplace insert?
I have had this little electric fireplace for 15 years, and I don't remember the brand, but it's your basic free-standing electric fireplace. I don't like the fake stones around the insert and want a less fake look. I don't have to keep the stone-effect; it's fine if there's a way to smooth them over or something, but it needs to be without adding a lot more weight to the unit, because it's upstairs and will need to be moved. Also, (obviously) the update needs to be heat-safe since the blower element is right next to the plastic stones. Should I just scuff them and paint them with high-heat paint? Or is there a better way? My research keeps bringing me to ideas for \*adding\* faux stone; I haven't landed on anything yet that discusses making over existing faux stone near a heating element.
