J2CR first impression. I had been asked to do this
I got the paddle within a day or two of the projected release date. The face on both sides seemed very consistent but looked smoother than I imagined but the surface was rough. The first game with the paddle did take some getting used too. Some of the soft hits went softer than I wanted and the hard strokes went longer than I wanted even with a spin increase that was noticeable. The sound it makes is very different than my other paddles and in a way it sounds hollow.
I found that i got enough pace on a very easy swing that is what I do for most hits and even my serve than with other paddles. The ball is pretty easy to hit where I want unless I try to hit a bit harder. The spin is markedly greater than my other paddles including some that are supposed t provide a lot of spin.
I really like that it feels like it sits on the paddle a little longer so it feels like I can control it better. Perhaps that is just in my head but I like the way the ball feels on my paddle. If there is a ball where you can hit a strong return the ball really goes with a good deal of speed. If I swing too hard it is not very controllable for me. I am not a high level players so more skilled players will probably not have this problem. After maybe 10 games and a few hours of practice the face color has changed a bit and the feel got better and according to sites that measure this parameter the spin stays the same or gets stronger.
I have no regrets I got it but after watching a video where they analyze all the parameters of the paddle I think I will move the weights up a bit from 3 and 9.
Your experience might be different but I bought this because the grit and ability to maintain it for a long period of time was compelling and my previous paddle from the company had the feel and performance that seemed to match up with how I play. I mostly do top spin and not always trying to put massive spin of all kinds on the ball but suppose those who do this will get great results. I recently say where one reviewer did a wear test of 100 games with the paddle and measured that the RPMs did not reduce and this was matched by another reviewer who did a wear test and had similar results.
I guess like everything you might find it to be incredible or horrible depending on what you like in the way a paddle performs. But for me the 3 things I really like is the feel of striking the ball, the great skin that helps keep the ball from going long and that soft shots are really controllable. For me I tend to hit too softly with it so that will take some getting used to it. so soft strikes are really soft and hard one are really hard. If that make sense because some paddles hit hard but are hard to control when hitting it softly.
These are my impressions so I hope you do not spend time telling me I am wrong about some of my comments. it is how it seems to me based on my abilities. In your hands it might be a very different beast. For me I am very pleased with my purchase and the paddle performance. #sport source
