So, I was thinking about Star Wars today (as you do) and my mind went to Anakin's birth and specifically to Shmi, who doesn't get enough attention. She had a heck of a hard life. She was a slave when Anakin was conceived. Think about that for a moment. Think about her owner. One of their slaves ends up pregnant without prior approval and the slave in question can only protest her innocence but I seriously doubt her owner would believe that one of their slaves got pregnant without a father. In all likelihood she was probably beaten severely and often.
Through all of that, through being sold to Gardulla and lost to Watto, she's raising this kid, trying to teach him about the good in the galaxy even as the world around them suggests the opposite, knowing in her heart that Anakin has a greater destiny than being a slave and when that day comes, she doesn't hesitate in letting Anakin go.
She gets sold but meets Cliegg and marries him. Finally she is free and able to live a simple life, happy and content, knowing that her son is making a difference in the universe only for it all to come crashing down and even then, even when the Tuskens torture her she holds on just long enough to see her son one last time...and then her son turns into Darth Vader.
Shmi is a strong-willed, hopeful woman who has suffered more than most in the Star Wars Saga and yet for all the despair and misery in her life, she held on to hope until the very end. #video #movies source
