ysk: if your laptop trackpad suddenly becomes very stiff and hard to click do not press harder on it. your battery is swelling and could explode
most modern laptops have the lithium battery sitting directly underneath the trackpad. when these batteries start failing they produce highly flammable gas and puff up like a balloon people usually just think their mouse is broken and try to push down on it harder. applying pressure to a swollen lithium battery can easily puncture the thin membrane and cause it to violently burst into a chemical fire that is almost impossible to put out with water if your trackpad stops clicking normally or the bottom of your laptop looks even slightly pregnant turn it off immediately and carefully move it outside or onto a concrete floor Why YSK: ignoring a swollen lithium battery or forcing your trackpad to click can trigger an uncontrollable thermal runaway fire that will easily burn your house down or cause severe facial burns #education
