Films and series inspired by video games! Now this theme is right up my alley! I'm an absolute video game nerd (always have been, always will be).
For the record, the video game series on which the movie I selected is based is Ace Attorney. It's very special to me, because it influenced and inspired my career choice today, as I'm an attorney practicing in Pennsylvania and Florida, United States. Anyway, on to the movie recommendation itself. No objections! I hope. ⚖️👩⚖️📚
Ace Attorney (2012), based on the Ace Attorney video game series, tells the story of rookie criminal defense attorney, Phoenix Wright. Phoenix’s boss and mentor, Mia Fey, was murdered, and Phoenix finds himself defending Mia’s younger sister, Maya Fey, in a criminal trial for her murder. Of course, the prosecutor, Miles Edgeworth, does not make obtaining an acquittal very easy. To make things even more complicated, this criminal case is inextricably linked to an old, unsolved murder case from nearly fifteen (15) years ago that Phoenix must now solve before the statute of limitations closes the case forever. That said, no exciting legal story would be complete without some supernatural elements sprinkled in. Phoenix discovers that Maya Fey is a spirit medium and, like other members of her family, has the ability to commune with the souls of the deceased - a power that has both helped solve hot and cold cases by identifying the true murderers and also caused innocent people to be wrongfully accused and/or convicted, which makes things legally and morally dicey.
(P.S. This may be obvious advice, but I personally recommend playing the Ace Attorney video games before watching this movie; it will help being everything into context. Watching the anime adaptation also wouldn't be a bad idea 😉).
