I work in a museum and I'm wondering if I could prevent an exhibit from coming apart by *welding the swage on the end.* we have an exhibit with that's setup in the picture:
* there's static attachment point at the bottom that holds the end of the steel wire in place. * the steel wire is attached to a spring / switch assembly that passes inputs to a microcontroller * visitors pull on the wire in a horizontal plane
the swage on the end of the wire got pulled out because ppl are constantly pulling on it so my question is this:
* (assuming a swage is weldable), is it safe to weld the swage on (eg maybe the heat would make the stainless prone to exploding into shards or something) * do you think welding the swage will add any actual resistance to pull-out
