Pain is not the enemy. it’s a teacher. Over the years, my body has collected its share of scars. Broken fingers, shattered ankles, a back held together with hardware, and joints that remind me daily of the life I’ve lived. These aches are not curses. They are badges. Proof that I’ve been in the game, not sitting on the sidelines.
When I wake up and feel pain, I remind myself it means I’m still alive. If there were no pain at all, I’d wonder if I was even here. Pain-free living isn’t reality, it’s the afterlife. So instead of complaining, I celebrate it. Physical pain is manageable when met with gratitude. It reminds us we’re moving, experiencing, and still gifted with life.
But here’s where the real battle is fought: the mind. Physical pain is one thing, but mental pain is where we torture ourselves unnecessarily. Self-judgment, regret, shame, comparison; these wounds cut deeper than broken bones. They’re the ones we allow in when we don’t use influence over our thoughts.
This is where presence and influence matter. You may not have influence over every pain that life brings, but you absolutely influence how you respond. Stop punishing yourself with thoughts that tear you down. Living will give you enough challenges, don’t add to them by destroying yourself from within.
The invitation is simple: shift your perspective. See your pain, physical or emotional, as proof that you’re still in the fight. Celebrate what you’ve overcome. Replace mental punishment with gratitude. Choose anabolic energy over catabolic suffering. That’s how you live up to your true potential, not by chasing a painless life, but by embracing the life you have, scars and all.
