I'm rewatching the MCU in chronological order. Upto Blackpanther now and the Killmonger throne room scene kind of annoys me.
Killmonger, the son of a traitor who is responsible for the death of W'Kabi's parents and other Wakandans by providing Klaue secret information to steal Vibranium, challenged T'Challas rule through ritual combat and T'Challa just accepted this?
Killmonger is holding T'Challa responsible for his fathers death, yet T'Challa tries to separate Killmonger from his traitorous father.
In any society throughout history, if you're a soldier, sabotage against your nation is treated with death or imprisonment. Killmongers father was caught and executed by the king. I doubt any Wakandans would have objected to this, considering the crimes he committed as well as his goal of invading the entire planet.
I saw older posts saying that T'Challa is honouring their traditions. That ship sailed when Killmongers father worked to betray Wakanda, along with Killmongers birth right challenge to the throne. Royal titles for all intents and purposes are made up and are given by powerful people, a royal blood is no different to that of a regular persons. Killmongers royal titles should have been automatically stripped. The elders, especially, would definitely have not objected to this would they have had additional context. Basically whay I'm trying to say is, this is stupid. I know it's made up and imaginary, and the MCU isn't exactly known for deep and introspective story telling, but this was disappointing. #video #movies
