I'm not sure where else to ask about this, so hopefully someone here can help me out: what kinds of beer are/have been popular in Southern California in semi-recent decades?
Context: in a short story I'm writing, there's a character who's from that area and I'm trying to figure out what his favorite drink would be. (This character is on the millennial/gen x-er cusp if that helps at all.) I figured beer was a safe bet, but I don't know much about the anthropological history of beer, let alone for that area. Unfortunately I can't seem to find much anecdotal info on the subject, just a bunch of "top 100 beers made in California" charts. Maybe it's silly of me to care so much about such a small detail in a story, but I want this character to feel like he's "really from" there, and beer - especially craft beer - has a lot of cultural significance. You can learn a lot about a person from their drink of choice.
TL;DR: Any relevant recommendations you have would be incredibly helpful.
