We built a geodesic dome from scratch, every piece cut by hand

About 8 years ago, we started building an off-grid Earthship in the mountains of Mexico.

One of the most challenging parts was building the geodesic dome structure from scratch.

Every single wooden strut had to be measured and cut by hand.
In total, we used 6 different triangle types and 6 different strut lengths, so precision was really important.

It took us some time just to cut and prepare all the pieces before we could even start assembling.

For the connections, we tried a simple DIY solution using flexible HDPE water pipes. We cut them into sections, pre-drilled them, and used them as connectors between the wooden struts. They turned out to be surprisingly strong and flexible.

In this video, you can see how the structure slowly beginns to come together, triangle by triangle.

Would love to hear your thoughts, especially if anyone here has experience with geodesic structures or alternative building methods.
