Steel Magnolias is funnier than 100% of comedy movies made today

I cackled so much watching it (and cried, obviously).
My biggest laugh was the son’s suggestion of what movie to watch the night before Shelby and M’Lynn go in for surgery. (“A Tale of Two Kidneys”)
Why can’t they find actually funny people to write scripts these days? 🤷♂️ I didn’t realise growing up that this would become something difficult for Hollywood to seek out.
