So I'm lucky enough surrounded by BLM land on 3 sides and have taken up wandering out into it with a pack horse to camp. The problem I'm running into is that I'm out in chaparral and most camping guides and a ton of camping gear assume you are in a forest with things like "stable soil" and "large trees" and not out in the high desert at the end of summer when the top six inches of soil is pretty loose and \~3 foot sagebrush is the biggest flora.
Some hacks are easy, mature healthy sagebrush will easily anchor a tent guyline for instance. And between me and the horse I have \~120lbs of pack allowance, so I have some room to carry even some light weight luxuries. I already have a Jetboil because dying in a wildfire is not on my to do list.
What are your favorite treeless camping hacks and/or gear? Bonus points for "solo camping in wildfire country" tips. I've just accepted that someday the horse thing will probably kill me. #camping #activity source
