Brand New Day is Marvel’s ‘Amélie’
It probably sounds stupid and i’m most likely the only person on Earth who thinks this but this film felt like the 2001 french film ‘Amélie’, or at least it left the same impression on me as that film. For those who don’t know, it’s a popular french film that’s essentially about a quirky woman in Paris who just decides to make everyone’s days better, and the film is really wholesome and uplifting. Of course, the whole point of Spider-Man is making everyone’s days betters, but something about it being more street-level in this film makes it feel a bit different than the Home trilogy. He’s not aiding people in Europe or in space, or trying to save the multiverse or something, he’s just doing it in his own back garden, giving back to the people of NYC, not just as Spider-Man but also as Peter Parker. I know so many people who left the theatre just smiling ear to ear, not because it sets up a new villain or something in a credits scene, but just because of how wholesome and genuine and hopeful this film was. The film makes me wanna go out and help an old woman cross the street. The part that really incapsulates this is outside the hospital, his little interaction with that kid. Anyway, just a minor thought i’ve had after watching Brand New Day, especially since I watched Amélie for the first time a few weeks ago and enjoyed it a lot
