How I want to show grid and battery power on our kitchen tablet
I'm planning balcony solar with storage for our home in Germany. The panels would feed the storage unit, which would supply part of our household demand, with the grid covering the rest. We already have a whole house meter. I'd like to bring the grid readings and the future battery readings together on the kitchen wall tablet.
I'm considering a Jackery SolarVault 3 Pro because it takes the panel input directly and combines that with storage. We're often out during the day, so the aim is to keep some solar energy for when we're home in the evening. Before choosing it, I still need to confirm compatibility with our metering and access to the readings I'd want on the tablet.
Once a battery is involved, the grid reading alone won't tell me whether we're using solar or stored energy. I'd want separate rows for solar input, grid power and battery power in W. Grid power would say importing, exporting or no flow, and battery power would say charging, discharging or idle. Red and green are hard for me to distinguish on a small icon across the kitchen, so those words matter more than the icon colour.
I'd put the battery percentage and today's grid import in kWh below those live readings. Missing data would say unavailable, with no arrow, so it couldn't be mistaken for zero power. The page isn't built yet. My first check will be whether I can read the labels from the kitchen doorway without having to walk over.
