Pans and spring form pans - okay for regular old cake?

I need to get a 10/8/6 set of pans for a 3 tier birthday cake I'm planning on making ... I am interested in the spring form pans. Bad idea? Overkill? I hear fat daddio is the way to go but not sure if I should go with the spring form too.
