Woke messages.
First and foremost you’re all using woke wrong and black people are tired of it.
Second….every piece of entertainment has a message. Everything you consume whether audio or visual has a message. This is something you should’ve learned in grade school.
Let’s talk about some of the the themes/messages of the MCU amongst the sub-franchises. This isn’t a complete list.
Iron Man trilogy: the dangers of the military industrial complex and how capitalism thrives on conflict for profit at the expense of people. Iron Man Three specifically touches orchestrated conflict and the manipulation of the masses to hate people who don’t look like them in order to keep war going. The trilogy is one big dissection of the War on Terror….with laughs.
Captain America: More on the military industrial complex but even more on totalitarianism/authoritarianism/fascism and how close we as a society to disregarding civil liberties for the sake of perceived security. There’s much allegory to modern and obvious early 20th century events. Again it’s a big dissection of the war on terror…..but not played for laughs. FATWS and Black Widow also do this but also intersect racism and sexism
Thor: the corruption associated with power, the burden of leadership and the dynamics of family system and their effects on mental health
GOTG: More of the dynamics of family systems
Black Panther: The long lasting effects of colonialism and the trans Atlantic slave trade/chattel slavery, mass incarceration, and systematic racism in America and globally. The second film is a conversation on the modern continuation of colonialism with the destabilization of Africa for minerals. Also a condemnation of American/European interventionism.
Doctor Strange: Humility. More or less Iron Man’s lessons but with magic and none of the anti-war sentiment.
Ant-Man: Prison-reform, the military industrial complex again, and capitalism. Honestly this series’ messages are a combination/continuation of what’s been established in Iron Man and Captain America. Quantumania I’ll admit is a mess and the little messaging they attempt falls flat via Cassie.
It’s weird to say you don’t want to see political and social commentary in film/tv when that’s the job of entertainment. Some of you don’t like the message because you are the message.
