YSK: Feeling worse for a day or two after a therapy session is normal

Why YSK: A lot of people quit therapy around session three or four because they walk out feeling flatter, rawer, or more tired than when they walked in, and they read that as proof it isn't working. It's usually the opposite. You spent an hour opening something you normally keep closed, and it doesn't close again the second you leave the room.

It tends to pass in a day or two. If it doesn't, or if it's getting heavier session over session, that's the thing to say out loud at the start of your next appointment instead of just not booking one.

Two things that help: don't schedule anything demanding right after a session if you can avoid it, and tell your therapist specifically what you felt afterward. They can pace the work differently. Most people never mention it because they assume it means they're failing at therapy.
