What do you do with the fire in a campfire ring between meals on a backpacking trip?
I have very little camping experience.
If we want to cook hot dogs at lunch when we arrive, and then potatoes at dinner, and eggs for breakfast the next morning, is there a way to keep all the firewood from burning away between meals and still be able to start it back easily later?
We'll be in a national forest, so it might be possible to find some dead branches. I'd be worried we wouldn't be able to find anything or would have to cut it them into usable pieces.
Update: Fires should not be left smoldering when they are unsupervised. We're only going to use the campfire in the evening now, and if we need to cook something at another time, we'll use a backpacking stove. #activity #camping
