One of the most common weaknesses I see in rec pickleball is overheads.
Not the easy putaways in the kitchen. I mean true overheads where you have to move back, get set, and take the ball high. Even some 4.5+ players who have never played other racket sports (badminton, tennis), will hit these relatively soft, letting opponents reset or counter.
It’s mostly a technique issue:
* Players stay too open, and backpeddle * Contact is low or off balance * They try to hit straight through the ball
These mistakes create very weak overheads
Watch some youtube videos, and try drilling these:
* Turn into a closed stance * Shuffle backwards sideways when positioning * Make sure contact is as high as possible * Think contacting upwards, through the ball, not straight forward * Let the forearm pronate/snap
That combo gives you both pace and control.
I hardly see anyone drilling overheads, but it’s one of the fastest ways to improve your game.
