YSK Always Wash a New Item of Clothing Before Wearing it

Why YSK - Clothing is produced in factories from cloth that is made in other factories. None of the machines are cleaned for germs / cleanliness, but might be blown down with compressed air every now and then to prevent manufacturing defects. When there is weaving and cutting of fabric, there is a lot of dust and dirt flying around the manufacturing process.

The pieces your clothing are made out of are handled tens or maybe hundreds of times by human hands during the manufacturing process. They will be contaminated by dust, dirt, general detritus, machine oil, lubricants and sometimes chemicals found in industrial processes. Not to mention the human hands that touch every single piece of every single part of the item of clothing multiple times might not be the cleanest.

Your clothing is then shipped to a warehouse. In the warehouse, your item could literally sit on a shelf for days, months or even years. Sometimes it might be in a plastic bag or in a box, but sometimes it might just be sitting there.

Then, your garment is shipped to a store where it is loaded and unloaded often multiple times, and then eventually ends up on the store edge, on a shelf, ready for you to buy.

Then, it's open to the number of people that will touch, open, rub, fiddle with, and even try-on your item of clothing. Think of how many people have tried that shirt or blouse on, or pulled those shorts over their own underwear.

Please folks, wash you clothes before you wear them. It might not kill you or even get you sick, but just wash them before you even think about wearing them.
A quick caveat is, you might want to try on the garment for size before washing anything as after washing, some vendors will deny a return. But take a shower after.

(For those that want more information about this, modern washing detergents contain substances that fluoresce under UV light, and return processors are known to check for this and might deny a return based on this fact.)
