Why does salt make things tasty/flavourful?
I read a cartoon book back home where three Cossacks go to great lengths to return the stolen salt. It appears that salt is a universal craving, given that it is in folklore and now that I live in North America.
A few extra questions:
Why did we evolve the tastebuds for salt?
When food is undersalted - is this feeling different than sugar cravings?
Why do we want it if it dehydrates us?
