I know I know… all black dials and all oyster bracelets. But this is really my perfect trifecta. I’ve had upwards of a dozen watches and have culled down to this set of 3. No complications, no dates, no fuss… and never noticed.
Air King 116900 - my first watch, I bought when I was 23. It was my goal (looking back a silly one), to be able to afford a Rolex by the time I was 24. I figured if Hans could start the thing at 24, I should at least be able to buy one. Bought this back in the day when you could walk into an AD with hopes and dreams, and out with a green bag a few hundred bucks under retail.
Explorer 36 114270 (2003) - this one took some searching and some luck. I wanted a 2003 explorer for my 33rd birthday. Sir Edmond was 33 when he summited Everest, and this model was the 50th anniversary (1953). Yeah I assign value where none exists. But my AD from my first watch, just so happened to have a CPO… right before my birthday. A good enough story for watch people.
Tudor Pelagos - this thing is just a beast. It gets a beating all the time. Gym, jobsites, yard work, travel, shooting. I love a watch that I don’t have to worry about… and accuracy— I measure this thing often… tracks about a second a day. It is such a solid no frills watch.
I hope y’all enjoy a good sentimental (meaningless) story about a few black dial watches. #luxury source
