ELI5 Zaire, Dem Rep of Congo, and Rep of Congo
Howdy hey residents of ELI5, I've got a (hopefully) easy topic I wanted to ask about.
Could someone explain the connection between the past country Zaire and the two Congos? My own brief research was halted by my need to work, but I was only more confused by what I found.
Is Zaire the DRoC? What's the connection to the RoC? Were they all once the same country? What made them rename and split? Is there even any connection between the Congos outside of name?
During my search I found conflicting information and I figured there would be someone grossly educated on this subject.
