Solo birthday Colorado camping week/road trip. Amphitheatre Campground, Ouray, CO.
My husband has been promising me a Colorado camping week for my birthday for over 10 years. He never made the effort to plan it. We separated a few months ago and I decided to take myself camping for my birthday. Nothing too off-trail. I rented an SUV and drove from Oklahoma to Trinidad, Taos, Santa Fe, Durango, and up the Million Dollar Highway where I planned to camp near Telluride. I made a pit stop in Ouray and fell for the quaintness. Amphitheatre Campground had one FCFS site left so I pitched my tent! They had lifted the burn ban the day before so I was able to make sausage and squash for dinner over and open fire. I ended up staying 2 nights.
The next day I drove out to Moab to see every star in the sky.
