The 2026 King of MLB The King of MLB Lineal Championship…

The 2026 King of MLB

The King of MLB Lineal Championship for 2026 is an attempt to find who is the head to head champion of the league for this season. With us getting into June I thought it was a great time to see where we are at.

**The Rules**

1. We start with the first batter of the regular season.

2. If the batter gets out, the pitcher is King.

3. If the batter gets a hit, sac fly, walk, or HBP, the batter is King.

4. This battle takes place every time the King is hitting or pitching.

5. At the end of the year there will be one King of Major League Baseball (2026)

**The King Thus Far**

1. On opening day Logan Webb (1) becomes King by striking out the first batter, Grisham. He remains King until the top of the 2nd when Giancarlo Stanton (1) singles to center. However in the 3rd, Stanton grounds out against Webb (2) who reclaims the crown. In the 4th Ryan McMahon (1) walks but Webb (3) strikes McMahon back out in the 5th. He would leave the game before giving up another baserunner and keeps the King crown until his next start.

2. On 3/31 Webb starts again and gives up a double to Fernando Tatis (1). Tatis maintains the title in the 3rd with a walk before losing it back to Webb (4) with a strikeout in the 5th. He again leaves the game before giving up another baserunner and keeps the crown until his next start.

3. On 4/5 Webb gives up a single to Robert Jr (1) in the 2nd. Webb (5) takes it back in the 4th by getting Robert Jr to ground into a fielders choice. The next batter is Jared Young (1) who gets an infield single. Young doubles to left in his next AB and then leaves the game in the 8th, taking the crown with him.

4. Young isn't in the starting lineup in the next game vs Arizona but does pinch hit in the 8th and records a sac fly RBI to continue being King. He does not play the next game and isn't in the lineup for the third game of this series either, until he comes into the game in the 8th and grounds out. Arizona pitcher Taylor Clarke (1) becomes King for one at bat before Francisco Lindor (1) singles to right.

5. Athletics pitcher JT Ginn (1) strikes out Lindor to start the next game. He holds the title for 2 1/3 before walking Francisco Alvarez (1). Alvarez singles in the 5th and then passes on the crown of King to Athletics reliever Jack Perkins (1). Perkins holds it for one batter before Carson Benge (1) singles to left. Benge does not get another plate appearance this game and keeps the title until the next game.

6. Athletics pitcher Jacob Lopez (1) strikes out Benge in the 2nd and then loses it to Tyrone Taylor (1) in the 3rd. No worries though, Lopez (2) gets it right back in the 4th by getting Taylor to fly out to right. He holds onto it for only one batter this time as Lindor (2) singles to open the 5th and then he passes it on to Athletics reliever Joel Kuhnel (1) in the 6th with a ground out. Kuhnel leaves the game and ends 4/11 as King of MLB.

7. Joel Kuhnel comes into the game on 4/12 and gets the Mets 1-2-3 for the save and to retain the title of King.

8. Joel Kuhnel next enters a game on 4/15 and retires 4 Rangers in a row for the save and once again retaining the title of King.

9. Joel Kuhnel next enters a game on 4/18 against the White Sox and gives up a single to Chase Meidroth (1). Meidroth then strikes out in the 10th vs Jack Perkins (2) before rookie catcher Edgar Quero (1) is hit by a pitch and becomes King. He holds it through games end.

10. The next day Quero opens with a sac fly before grounding out to Jeffrey Springs (1) in the third. Springs holds the title until the 5th when Vargas (1) singles to left. Vargas walks in the 7th before grounding out to Athletics reliever Barlow (1). This holds for two batters when Everson Pereira (1) is hit by a pitch. The game ends before Pereira can come to bat again.

11. Pereira hits a sac fly in the first inning of the next game to keep the streak going but then grounds out in the second to Merril Kelly (1) of the Diamondbacks. An inning later Chase Meidroth (2) take the crown back with a single to right. He walks in the 5th to keep it going but fouls out in the 7th to Arizona reliever Jonathan Loaisiga (1). He holds it for two batters before Reese McGuire (1) takes the crown with a walk. In the 9th, McGuire walks again and leaves the game as the King of MLB.

12. After missing a game, McGuire starts the series finale against the Diamondbacks and strikes out in the third to Michael Soroka (1). This is especially noteworthy because after this game McGuire would be designated for assignment and would have remained King until his eventual return. Alas, the King is Soroka for all of one batter before Benintendi (1) singles to right. Which gives him the crown for one at bat before striking out to Soroka (2) in the 5th, who then walks Vargas (2). Vargas flies out to center against Diamondbacks reliever Morillo (1) who promptly gives up a single to Colson Montgomery (1) and the game ends with him being King.

13. 4/24 sees Mongomery ground out and giving the crown to Nationals starter PJ Poulin (1). Poulin then hits Sam Antonacci (1). Antonacci doubles in the 5th, walks in the 7th, and hits a sac fly in the 8th to keep the crown for the day.

14. Nationals starter Jake Irvin (1) gets Antonacci to ground out in the 2nd. The very next batter is Chase Meidroth (3) who singles to left. In the 4th Meidroth flies out giving the title back to Irvin (2). In the 5th, Quero (2) singles off of Irvin. In the 7th, Nationals reliever Mitchell Parker (1) gets Quero before hitting Montgomery (2) with a pitch in the 8th. In the 9th, Montgomery strikes out vs Nats reliever Cionel Perez (1). Perez leaves the game with the crown.

15. On 4/29 Perez enters a blowout against the Mets and gets them 1-2-3 in the 7th to retain the crown.

16. On 5/1 Perez enters a 4-0 game vs Milwuakee and gets them 1-2-3 in 6th. He comes out in the 7th and gets the first batter before giving up a single to William Contreras (1). Contreras gets another at bat and singles there too. He keeps the crown for the night.

17. Contreras starts the game on 5/2 with a single in the first but flies out to Foster Griffin (1) in the 2nd. Griffin hols the crown through the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th innings before giving up a single to Garrett Mitchell (1). In the 7th Brad Lord (1) gets Mitchell to ground out but then gives up a single to Brice Turang (1). Jokes on Turang though as Lord (2) continues pitching into the 8th and gets him to strikeout before leaving the game as King.

18. It takes 6 days for Brad Lord to see action again. He comes in against the Marlins and gives up a single to Otto Lopez (1). Lopez would not bat again this game.

19. Next game Lopez lines out in the second to give the crown to Richard Lovelady (1). Who promptly walks Liam Hicks (1). Zack Littell (1) gets him in the 4th only for the next batter, Kyle Stowers (1) to homer. Littell (2) gets him back in the 6th and then immediately walks Jakob Marsee (1). Marsee homers in the 8th and is your King at the end of 5/9.

20. Marsee singles in his first at bat. Cavalli (2) strikes him out in the 4th then promptly gives up a single to Heriberto Hernandez (1). Cavalli (3) redeems himself in the 6th by getting Hernandez to ground out and leaves the 5/10 game as King.

21. We wait 6 days for Cavilli to take the bump again. Taylor Ward (1) wastes no time in the first taking the crown from him. Cavailli (4) takes it right back in the 3rd with a strikeout. Jeremiah Jackson (1) takes the crown in the 5th with a single. PJ Poulin (2) comes into the game in the 7th and gets Jackson to fly out but Gunnar Henderson (1) walks right after to take it back. He doesn't hit again this game and leaves the 5/16 game as King.

22. Henderson homers in the first, singles in the third, and doubles in the 5th, before finally relinquishing the crown to Nationals pitcher Mike Mikolas (1) in the 7th. Mikolas will then leave the game and take the crown with him

23. Mikolas' next appearance is on May 22nd. He enters in the 2nd inning and gives up a single to Austin Riley (1). Riley singles again in the 5th, walks in the 7th, and singles in the 9th. The 5/22 game ends with him as King.

24. On 5/23 Riley flies out against Jake Irvin (3). Irvin sets down 13 in a row before leaving the game. The next day, 5/24, the Nationals put Jake Irvin on the 15 day injured list with a strained shoulder. He hasn't made an appearance since.

**Which means as of the end of all games on June 1st, your King of Major League Baseball is none other than Nationals pitcher JAKE IRVIN!**

Congrats Jake!
