West Six Brewing announces its Covington taproom is closing after less than 2 years
Tap rooms come and tap rooms go, but I was a regular at this place for its length of operation. Located in an historic old firehouse in Covington, KY, the establishment didn't survive. West Sixth Brewing has tap rooms in Lexington, Louisville, and Frankfort, KY - and they're all successful. I was here for opening day with six inches of snow on the ground and the place was packed, and I've been returning ever since. The beer was good and the staff was magnificent, but some days there was barely anyone there. While the old building did have AC and electrical issues, the bar on the top floor seemed to do better business despite those problems.
The real problem was a lack of real food options. West Sixth did a good job investing in the space initially, but the promise of a kitchen never panned out. People don't like to go to breweries or tap rooms these days without a decent option for food. A loyal core of regulars have been trying their best to keep the place afloat, but in the end I guess it wasn't meant to be. It's such a shame to see the space close and the wonderful people behind the bar go separate ways. Pour one out for the CovHaus.
