Ever get that "helpful" tip from a friend, parent, or random—only for it to blow up in your face? We're talking the classic bad advice traps: " Just push through the pain " when you needed rest, or " Follow your passion " with zero backup plan, leaving you broke and burned. Psych studies show we love giving advice (feels good!), but 70% flops 'cause it's one-size-fits-none—your mess ain't their mess.

SPILL YOURS IN DETAIL : At least 5 detailed sentences total covering the following:
· your situation/why you needed advice
· the specific advice given ( DON'T copy the examples )
· what happened after

ATTACHMENT: Use the same attachment I have for this activity; text overlay: your answer for “the specific advice given”

Oh yes, I’ve definitely had one of those moments 😅

My situation/why I needed advice

I once needed advice when I was thinking about leaving a stable job to try something more independent. I felt stuck and wanted to grow, but I was also nervous about financial security.

The specific advice given - Someone I trusted told me very confidently that I should quit immediately and go all in, saying that taking risks would force me to succeed faster. So I followed that advice, I resigned without a solid plan, no savings buffer, and no clear structure for what I was going to build next.

What happened after - At first, it felt exciting and freeing, but within a couple of months, reality hit hard. Bills started piling up, opportunities didn’t come as quickly as I expected, and I found myself stressed and overwhelmed instead of inspired.

I ended up taking on random short-term work just to stay afloat, which slowed down the very dream I had quit my job for. Looking back, I realized the advice wasn’t wrong in spirit, but it completely ignored my situation and responsibilities.
That experience taught me that bold moves need smart planning. Now, I still take risks, but with a safety net, a timeline, and a clear strategy in place.

I was in a past relationship with my ex-partner who became very irresponsible over time, he got into drinking and drugs, and eventually stopped providing any financial support for our child. I felt lost and asked for advice because I didn't know what to do anymore, especially since I was carrying all the responsibilities alone.
The advice I received was to just stay and endure everything because I chose him, so I should take responsibility for that decision and continue the relationship no matter how hard it gets.
I tried to follow that advice, but things only became worse, I became emotionally drained, financially stressed, and felt completely unsupported. In the end, I realized that not all advice is good, and staying in a toxic situation is never the right choice, especially when it affects your well-being and your child.

bad advice hits different when you realize too late it was never meant for your situation.

I once followed the classic “just push through it, don’t be lazy” advice when I was already mentally and physically drained. Instead of taking a break like I actually needed, I kept forcing myself to study and work nonstop. At first, it felt productive, like I was being strong—but slowly everything started slipping. My focus got worse, I made more mistakes, and even small tasks felt overwhelming. Eventually, I burned out so badly that I couldn’t do anything properly for days, which set me back more than resting ever would have. That experience taught me that not all “hard work” advice is healthy—sometimes listening to your limits is the smarter move.

I was really stressed about my studies and couldn’t focus at all. I asked someone I trusted for advice because I felt lost and needed guidance. They told me to stop studying for a few days and “just relax, everything will be fine later.” I followed that advice thinking it would help me refresh my mind, but instead I lost track of my syllabus and fell behind badly. When exams came close, I was panicking and regretting that decision so much. That experience taught me that not every advice fits your situation, and sometimes discipline matters more than comfort.

The Situation
Right after getting married, my husband and I decided to focus on our long-term stability before starting a family, but we didn't end up being blessed with our baby until two years later. During that waiting period, I was working hard on my Master’s degree while my husband was away undergoing intensive six-month training for his officership.

The Specific Advice
A relative constantly pressured me, saying, "You shouldn't wait too long to have a baby because your career will always be there, but your 'clock' is ticking and you'll regret putting school first." They insisted that I should drop my academic goals and that my husband's career training shouldn't matter as much as "expanding the family" immediately.

The Aftermath
Following that advice would have left me overwhelmed, alone during a high-risk time while my husband was in training, and without the degree I worked so hard for. By sticking to my boundary and politely saying, "I’m finishing my Master’s first," I was able to walk across that stage with my diploma and a clear mind. When our baby finally arrived two years later, we were financially stable, I had my credentials, and my husband was fully present as an officer, proving that waiting for the "right" season was the best gift we could give our child.(and soon to be children)

Now, I trust my own timeline over anyone else’s "schedule." Those two years gave us a foundation of strength that made us better parents in the long run.

I was feeling bored and wanted something exciting to do, so I asked my friend for an idea to make the day more adventurous. Instead of suggesting something safe, he told me we should sneak into a nearby garden and take some oranges, saying it would be fun and no one would notice. Trusting him, I went along with the plan even though I had a slight feeling it might go wrong. As soon as we started picking the oranges, the gardener spotted us and began chasing us. My friend managed to run away quickly, but I wasn’t fast enough and got caught. In the end, I was the one who faced the consequences and got punished, while the person who gave the advice escaped without any trouble. ( It is true story of my childhood when I was 12 and was living in village)
