What the opening scene of Avengers Doomsday should be
I’ve been thinking about the perfect way to open Avengers Doomsday, perhaps by paying homage to the Fox-Verse. This is how I would handle it:
1. The Opening: The Monastery
The movie opens exactly where X-Men: Days of Future Past left off. We are in the dark future. The Sentinels have breached the vault. Kitty Pryde is struggling to keep the connection, and the Sentinels are charging their thermal beams right in front of her and Wolverine.
In the original movie, everyone fades away as the timeline is rewritten. But here’s the twist: The Sentinels fade away, but Logan and the others stay behind.
2. "Did we do it?"
Logan wakes up in his body, gasping for air. The threat is gone, but the environment is silent and eerie.
• Kitty: "Did we do it, Logan? Did the past change?"
• Wolverine: "I don't know... something feels wrong."
Suddenly, a massive earthquake hits, but it’s not tectonic. The sky turns a deep, bruised violet, and the sound of "glass breaking" echoes through the atmosphere. Professor X (Patrick Stewart) stumbles out to the balcony, sensing a psychic scream from the universe itself.
• Xavier: "This shouldn't be happening... this timeline should have been erased the moment the past was changed."
3. The Incursion
They rush outside and see the impossible. The sky isn't just changing color; it’s collapsing. Massive chunks of other realities, buildings from different cities, and cosmic debris are appearing in the clouds. It’s an Incursion.
The physical sensation of the universe dying is overwhelming.
• Magneto (Ian McKellen), clutching his chest: "I never thought this would be so painful..."
4. Enter: Doctor Doom
As the world literally starts to pixelate and dissolve into white light, a rift opens. It’s not a sorcerer’s portal; it’s a jagged tear in reality. Doctor Doom (RDJ) steps through. He doesn't look like a villain; he looks like a god among the ruins.
• Doom: "Your timeline is an arithmetic error the multiverse is trying to correct. But even in the debris of time, there are pieces worth salvaging."
• Wolverine: "Who the hell are you?"
• Doom: "I am the one who ensures something survives the end of everything. You still have a chance to save yourselves... but you must follow me."
Doom turns back toward the rift without a second glance. With their world literally vanishing behind them, the X-Men have no choice. They step into the unknown.
