After years of watching and rewatching The Ninth Gate I finally understand what its about, specially the ending
Im not going to resummarize the movie or go in deep, because there's millions of those posts already. Im just going to summarize the short version of what I finally understand after all these years:
The movie is about an attempted power-grab of a Satanic false prophet (Balkan), meanwhile actual Lucifer quietly chooses the right emissary, who ascends at the end.
That's the cleanest version of the movie that satisfies all the theories, symbolism and questions.
In a practical sense, what happens at the end of the movie? Corso gains occult knowledge into the mechanics of reality, possibly gains immortality and basically becomes what Balkan is, except he is the actual crowned emissary.
