Ideas for a Thunderbolts sequel

Hi everyone! I'm making a project about how I'd make the next saga of the MCU after Secret Wars and today I want to share a little part of it, the plot of a potential sequel of Thunderbolts. Hope you'll read and enjoy it! Let me know what you think about it!

**Note**: As I said, this plot is part of a bigger project. If there are characters like Zemo and Ares in it, it's because it would be set after a World War Hulks project (where every prisoner in the Raft escapes thanks to The Leader) and a Hercules project (where Ares is introduced first as an enemy, then as an ally and at the end is contacted by Valentina).

# SYNOPSIS

The New Avengers are now recognized as heroes by the public, but everything changes when someone decides to carry out a plan against them and smears their reputation by revealing their past crimes. The New Avengers must restore their public image and try to understand who is trying to eliminate them, while trying to determine if there is a real correspondence between who they are and how they appear.

# FULL PLOT

New York City is shaken by a wave of crime orchestrated by three new super-villains: Radioactive Man, Whirlwind, and Beetle. The New Avengers intervene promptly, but their missions turn into disasters. The primary issue is the instability of Bob (Sentry): every time he attempts to use his power, his mental fragility causes immense collateral damage, preventing the team from acting effectively. Amidst this climate of failure, a new figure emerges: Citizen V. Charismatic and impeccable, Citizen V always appears at the crucial moment, defeating enemies just as the New Avengers seem defeated, becoming the city's media idol.

During a violent clash with Radioactive Man, the team's secretary, Mel, is gravely injured. Citizen V personally rescues her. Upon her awakening, the hero begins to subtly manipulate her, questioning the New Avengers' true conduct and instilling doubt that her teammates are dangerous. He offers her to become his sidekick, giving her a high-tech winged suit and a device capable of converting her voice into sonic shockwaves. Mel, inspired by an ancient family heirloom (a medallion she always wears), accepts and adopts the identity of Songbird.

Someone unknown leaks classified files on the New Avengers online. The world discovers the truth: Ava’s past as an assassin, Yelena’s crimes in the Red Room, Bob’s instability linked to his past drug addiction, and, above all, Bucky’s militancy as the Winter Soldier, including the details regarding the murder of Tony Stark's parents.

Public opinion revolts. Viewed as criminals masquerading as heroes, the New Avengers become the world's most wanted fugitives. While Bucky, Bob, Ava, and Walker fall into despair and suggest retreating to avoid prison, Yelena and Alexei take charge: they convince the group not to surrender and to find the person responsible for the defamation to save what they now consider a family. Meanwhile, New York hails Citizen V and Songbird as the true protectors, ready to lead a new formation of official Avengers.

Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, who had already planned to dispose of the team to create a more obedient one, exploits the chaos. She sends Sharon Carter to investigate the leak in order to determine if the author of the defamation is an enemy or a potential ally. It is revealed here that Sharon, after her pardon, maintained her role as the Power Broker, secretly trafficking advanced weapons and technology on Valentina's behalf.

Sharon begins her investigation and discovers that the components used to enhance Songbird were purchased from Madripoor. By accessing Mel’s old files, she discovers that the hack originated from the girl’s own devices. Following the trail, Sharon infiltrates Citizen V’s hideout and comes face-to-face with the person who hides behind the mantle of the new hero: Baron Zemo, who after escaping from the Raft developed a plan to take revenge on the heroes (and especially Bucky), still believing that heroes are the evil of society. He enhanced Beetle, Whirlwind, and Radioactive Man with technology bought from the Power Broker and orchestrated the attacks, provoking Bob to make them fail and discredit the team; he created the myth of an alternative hero, Citizen V, to contrast the failure of the New Avengers; and he recruited Mel specifically to gain access to the servers and spread the incriminating files.

At that moment, Valentina arrives and congratulates Sharon on her discovery. Val proposes a collaboration to Zemo: Citizen V will lead her next Avengers in exchange for the total destruction of the New Avengers. Zemo accepts, seeing the opportunity to put criminals in charge of society. Sharon tries to object, but Valentina blackmails her: if she speaks, she will reveal her secret as the Power Broker. Sharon is forced to feign obedience.

Valentina asks Mel to officially join the new team, and the girl, still unaware of the truth, accepts. The government launches a manhunt using the new formation of "true" heroes: Citizen V, Songbird, Bullseye (as the new Hawkeye), Ares, Scorpion (bonded with the Venom symbiote), and Karla Sofen/Moonstone (a psychologist gifted with superpowers via the Moonstone).

While Yelena, Alexei, Ava, and Bob are tracked down and captured by Moonstone after a fierce battle, Bucky and Walker manage to infiltrate Avengers Tower. There, they find Sharon Carter waiting for them. Sharon reveals everything: Zemo’s identity, Valentina’s plot, and the truth about herself as the Power Broker. After a tense verbal confrontation with Bucky, they decide to join forces and intervene during the proclamation ceremony of the new Avengers.

During the ceremony, Valentina triumphantly announces the capture of the "traitors" and proclaims the new team of Avengers. However, Sharon interrupts the event: in front of the world's cameras, she confesses being the Power Broker to prove Val's complicity with Zemo, declaring that although everyone has made mistakes, redemption is a possible choice. The crowd turns against the ‘Dark Avengers’. Bucky and Walker free their imprisoned teammates.

Zemo and Val order the attack. While the New Avengers and Sharon face Bullseye, Moonstone, Scorpion, and the arriving Beetle, Radioactive Man, and Whirlwind, Mel realizes she has been manipulated and chooses to side with her old companions. Even Ares, furious at being used by Valentina in a plot based on lies, rebels and attacks Zemo. To save himself, Zemo provokes Bob until the Void emerges.

The Void begins to sow death among the civilians. The New Avengers focus on rescuing the crowd, protecting the people who were insulting them moments before. The population witnesses their authentic heroism and begins to cheer for them. Ares, thanks to his divine nature, is the only one capable of withstanding the physical onslaught of the Void. In an epic battle that leaves him near death, Ares manages to subdue it, allowing Bob to regain consciousness.

Valentina is overwhelmed by the scandal and forced to resign, losing all her power. The New Avengers are rehabilitated in the eyes of the world and decide to re-establish themselves as an independent organization, free from government constraints. Sharon, Mel, and Ares permanently join the team. However, Zemo, Bullseye, Moonstone, Scorpion, Radioactive Man, Whirlwind, and Beetle manage to escape, retreating into secrecy to found the Masters of Evil
