We were at home. For us, New Year's is not fun, as my dogs are terribly afraid of fireworks. They were given sedatives, and we turned the TV up really loud so they wouldn't hear the constant, loud banging.
b. How the moment felt starting the New Year.
While others were having fun, we were always at home and taking care of our dogs. At midnight, we sang the Hungarian National Anthem with the TV broadcast on standby. This is a tradition for us, this is how all of Hungary says goodbye to the old year, wherever you are, whatever you are doing. These few minutes of respect for the new year.
On the first day, 1 January 2026, we took a quick, health-related walk only 500 m, here at the end of our street, in the field, because my dog Hunor was injured; he limps on one leg, but he doesn't have a torn ligament. Anyway, every year, we start the new year with a longer New Year's tour in the afternoon, taking all the delicious things with us. This is also a tradition for us; this year it was not possible.
c. "I remember this moment, because afterwards we had a glass of non-alcoholic champagne, wished each other all the best and happiness. I called my sister after midnight, as I do every year, and greeted them in the new year.
A heartful and meaningful start to the year - traditions, care and small moments of connections make the first day truly special 💛✨Thank you for sharing
