ELI5: Who is the ancestor of our "common ancestors"?
I have a pretty basic understanding of human evolution. From what i understand humans (all species considered human) and apes or monkeys (idk what the word is that groups them) both descend from a common ancestor. Is there an idea of who the ancestor of the common ancestor is? Like, what do we call what came before that? Is the common ancestor the being that lived in the trees and monkeys/apes and humans split from that guy? If so who are the guys/gals before him?
