I went down a rabbit hole last week trying to find a stream I missed and it got sketchy fast. The FBI's May 27 alert names 36 spoofed FIFA domains using typosquats and minor misspellings, many pushed through sponsored search ads, all built to harvest banking info. Fortinet counted over 13,000 World Cup themed domains registered since January with about 8.8% flagged malicious or suspicious.
The reflex most people have is to grab a free VPN extension first. Problem is, most of those log and sell the exact browsing data they promise to hide. You trade one trap for another.
The genuinely free legal paths in the US are just FOX over the air with an antenna (about 70 matches) and Telemundo over the air in Spanish (92 matches). Everything else needs a login or subscription.
Why YSK: if you use a VPN at all, pick one with an independently audited no log policy, not a random free extension that monetizes you. The scam infrastructure targets exactly the search you were about to make.
