#SiblingRivalry

#earn activity

I have a sibling close to my age, and while we were very close growing up, we were also competitive with each other. Sometimes we supported each other, and other times we argued over small things because we both wanted attention and appreciation.
My earliest memory of sibling rivalry was comparing grades and getting praised differently by family members. Sometimes it felt like we were being measured against each other, even when we were trying our best in different ways.
There’s less rivalry now than before, but comparison still happens occasionally. As we’ve grown older, we understand each other better and try to communicate more calmly. The relationship feels healthier now, even though some old feelings still appear sometimes.
One positive thing this rivalry taught me was how to speak up for myself and become more independent. It also helped me learn patience, compromise, and how to handle jealousy in a healthier way.
I wish the rivalry had been handled with more understanding and less comparison. It would have felt kinder if both of us were appreciated for our own strengths instead of being compared so often.
If I could talk to my younger self during those difficult moments, I would say: “You don’t have to compete to be loved. Your value is not smaller just because someone else is doing well too.”
