Hot take: Daredevil has the credibility & experience to stand alongside the Avengers & should take part in consequential, world-ending events.. He can still protect the streets while also evolving as a superhero
As someone who loves the original Daredevil series and the gritty, grounded stories that juxtapose the fantastical, grand atmosphere of the main MCU/Avengers films, I really believe there’s a way for Matt Murdock / Daredevil to be integrated into stories involving multiversal or alien threats without taking away from what his shows have accomplished on a realistic and deeply human level.
If we ever reach the end of Daredevil: Born Again, I feel like that progression would make sense for his character and role as a hero within his world, starting as a vigilante making small but meaningful changes and fighting human evil to protect citizens in his neighbourhood/city, to eventually becoming involved in larger affairs that would help his city in the long run. Even if Born Again continues on in a grounded direction, I think fans can still enjoy and immerse themselves in that world and separate it from the notion of him participating in larger-scale events offscreen.
I admit that I enjoyed the way Daredevil’s more fantastical acrobatics and lighthearted vibes were portrayed in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. It felt fresh, fun. It was a look into a happier Matt (post-season 3) who had spent the last few years in comfort and stability. That’s not to say the current version of Matt would carry the same level of levity, but it shows how different writers can explore fun and compelling sides of a character when they move from solo projects into larger crossover stories with diverse personalities and tones.
Punisher appearing in Spider-Man: Brand New Day already seems to support that idea, seeing how a broken, lethal man with a troubled moral code (and has done grotesque things) is viewed through the lens of someone younger and more optimistic.
And with the end of Born Again season 2, the Daredevil identity has grown to becoming a major public figure. Across 10+ years as a vigilante, he’s built an incredible resume of accomplishments.. like leading a rebellion against systemic corruption, helping eradicate an ancient secret organization (at least eradicated for now…) and bringing countless high-level criminals to justice. At a certain point, there’s only so much left for Daredevil to achieve at the street level without repeating things. With more heroes constantly being introduced and expanding that corner of the MCU, I think there’s a real opportunity to place him in more unique situations and explore new dimensions of his character. His skill set, experience, as well as worldview would make him a valuable asset in larger conflicts, while also bringing a jaded, grounded, and deeply human perspective to a universe filled with limitless possibilities.
