The starting line up should just be the O-5 with Sinister as the main antagonist and Emma Frost as the secondary antagonist.
One of the aspects of the Fox X-Men that made it hard to connect to everyone is that the cast got way too big, way too soon, withe focus heavily centered on Wolverine. Starting with a smaller cast would allow for true ensemble story telling instead of centering around one person and making everyone else side characters with 5 minutes of screen time.
Storm could have been introduced in Black Panther 3 and there are so many movies Rogue could have been placed before fully establishing both characters in the X-Men 2.
