Dillon Dingler became the first Stark County, OH player to be selected to the ASG since Yankee legend Thurman Munson in 1978.
Dingler also became only the 3rd player overall from Stark County to be named an MLB All-Star, joining another Yankee legend, Tommy Henrich. Henrich played his last ASG in 1950.
Dingler has a lot of work to do if he wants to catch up to Henrich and Munson. Henrich won 5 World Series, was a 5-time All-Star, hit the first-ever walk-off HR in World Series history, and was part of a fierce Yankees outfield in the 1940s with DiMaggio and Charlie "King Kong" Keller. He got the nickname "Old Reliable" from Yankees broadcaster Mel Allen, after a train that ran from Ohio to Alabama, because he always found a way to get a hit when needed.
Munson won 2 World Series, was a 7-time All-Star, AL MVP, AL ROY, an amazing defensive catcher, had his number retired by the Yankees, and was the first Yankees captain after Lou Gehrig.
Dingler is off to a good start; since his first full season in 2025, among catchers, Dingler is 2nd in fWAR, 4th in wRC+, 2nd in Def, 2nd in DRS, and 3rd in FRM.
