My Ghosted Essential:

Commodity: can goods

The rising cost of canned goods is hitting hard, especially for low-income households 😞. When prices go up, people struggle to afford enough food for their families. Here's why it hurts:
With higher prices, folks have less money for other essentials.
People are forced to choose cheaper, less nutritious food. This can lead to malnutrition, especially for kids and seniors.

In the Philippines, food inflation is expected to reach 3.50% by the end of this quarter, while overall inflation is at 1.5% year-on-year as of January 2026 .

It’s so true that the rising cost of canned goods impacts families deeply, especially those on tight budgets. It’s heartbreaking to see people having to choose between nutrition and other essentials.

My Ghosted Essential: 🍚💔

Commodity: Rice
Before → After: PKR 3,800/25kg → 6,000/25kg

Why it hurts:
Rice wasn’t just food—it was security. One sack meant the family was covered.
Now every scoop feels measured, every plate feels lighter.
Leftovers are planned, seconds are skipped, and silence replaces full stomachs.
When a basic need starts feeling like a luxury, you know the pressure is real. 😞🍽️💸

I completely understand your struggle. It’s heartbreaking to see staples like rice become so expensive.

Commodity: Cooking oil 🛢️
Before: Rs. 350 per liter
After: Rs. 510 per liter 😤
The pain:
Cooking used to be normal—now every meal needs calculation. Fried food feels like a treat, not a habit. Oil is measured drop by drop, and the stress shows up before the taste does. Prices went up, but comfort quietly disappeared.
Ghosted essential. Inflation hurts where it lives — the kitchen. 💔

It’s wild how something we used to take for granted has become a luxury. Cooking should bring joy, not stress. Every drop counts now, and it’s heartbreaking to see comfort foods turning into rare treats.

#InflationGhost Confession
Since I left my teaching job in 2017, I’ve been the designated "Chief Marketing Officer" for our family. And honestly? It’s been a wild ride. The jump between 2023 and 2024—right as we were getting used to the "new normal"—was the worst of it. Even though things have started to chill out a bit recently, our wallets are still feeling the hangover from those peak prices.
We live a pretty simple, frugal life, so it’s the basics that really get to me. We’re lucky that my husband gets a gas allowance from work, but the price of vegetables and onions? That’s where it hurts.
It’s not just that things are expensive; it’s the "shrinkflation." You pay the same price for a bundle of greens, but you get half the amount. It leads to this total "budgeting fatigue." We aren't necessarily buying less; we're just settling for lower quality. If onions are gold-plated that week, we swap them for onion powder. If tomatoes are too pricey, we reach for the canned paste.
Nowadays, you walk into a store with a 1,000 peso bill and walk out with three items and a bag of hope. You’re standing at the checkout like, "Wait, where did the rest of my money go?"
But the hardest part isn't even the price tag—it’s the unpredictability. One week tomatoes are Php 40; the next, a storm hits and they’re Php 180.

It’s like being in a toxic relationship with someone who only texts when they need something. You just can’t plan your life when the cost of living changes every time the wind blows.🤣🤣😂🤣😂😂✌️

So if I got time I think I will plant my veggies 😂

Planting your own veggies sounds like a great idea! At least that way, you can have a little control over what’s on your plate. Here’s to hoping for more stability and affordable prices ahead! 🌱💚

Yo, that’s a heavy one 😮‍💨. Here in Pakistan, *chicken prices* have gone from like *Rs. 300/kg to over Rs. 600/kg* in just a year. It’s wild. Before, we’d have it 3–4 times a week, now it’s like a luxury. Feels like we’re ghosted by our own dinner plate 🍗👻.

I totally get what you’re saying! It's crazy how something as basic as chicken has become a luxury item. It really puts things into perspective when we have to rethink our meals.

⛽ Commodity: Gasoline
💸 Before: Rs. 150 per liter
💔 After: Rs. 320+ per liter
Gasoline wasn’t just fuel—it was freedom, work, and family visits. Now every trip comes with hesitation: “Do I really need to go?” Fewer rides, missed opportunities, life slowed down. Inflation hasn’t just raised prices—it’s drained courage too.

Thanks

My #InflationGhost : Eggs
Before: Rs 170–180 per dozen
After: Rs 420+ per dozen
Why it hurts:
Eggs were our everyday food. Easy, healthy, affordable. Now we think twice before buying them. Sometimes we walk past the shelf and say “next time.” It hurts because something so basic has slowly disappeared from our routine. Inflation didn’t just increase prices, it quietly took away our normal life. 👻

It’s heartbreaking to see prices skyrocket and have to rethink our basic meals. We shouldn’t have to feel guilty about buying healthy food for ourselves and our families.

#InflationGhost  Confessions

The price hike that truly haunts my home is rice — our everyday essential.
Before: Rs. 3,500 for a 10kg bag
After: Rs. 5,800 for the same 10kg
Rice isn’t a luxury for us, it’s survival. It’s on our table almost every day, feeding the whole family. When the price jumped, it didn’t just hit the wallet — it changed portions, meals, and peace of mind. We now think twice before cooking freely, and that constant calculation feels exhausting.
Another ghost is cooking oil.
Before: Rs. 450 per liter
After: Rs. 850 per liter
Its absence is felt in smaller meals, less frying, and adjusting traditional dishes we grew up with. Inflation didn’t just raise prices — it quietly stole comfort from our kitchens.
These aren’t numbers anymore… they’re daily reminders of what’s slipping away. 👻💔

It’s heartbreaking to see how essential items like rice and cooking oil have become so much more expensive. It’s not just about the money; it’s about the impact on our daily lives and the way we gather around the table.

great topic choice 👍 .. dunno where to start .. everything is affected by inflation in Tunisia .

everything without excpetion , real estate, food, medical things, agricultural products , automotive, all kind of equipments ...
everyone is struggling with doubled and tripled cost of living since 2011 prices goes higher every 3 -5 months and goods getting rare in markets ...
almost every 3-4 days i have to search stores and supermarkets for 1 kg of sugar , 1 kg of flavor and 1kg rice .
even vegetables gets rare bcze of the
and if i find a friend working there, i ask him as a favor to keep some for me when they receive those goods.
all kind of bills + kids needs + medical care (despite the free shity services in hospitals that push everyone for private services ) + food ... makes people feel so stressed and explode at the first chance they get.
huge impact on relationships and health, not only on myself or my family.

now Ramadan is coming , preparations began earlier than last year.
simple rule , take what you find , don't expect to find it later.

if only the goverment policies change rgarding export and the private company vampires , things would go much better
$0 earned8mo ago
Your point about government policies and private sector roles highlights a critical area where change could ease these hardships. Ramadan arriving early this year only adds pressure, making the reality of “take what you find” painfully true. Stories like yours remind us how inflation is not just about numbers—it’s about real people facing ongoing uncertainty and stress. Stay strong, and thank you for your honesty.

Commodity: Chicken 🐔 (Pakistan)
Before price: around Rs 350–400 per kg
Now price: around Rs 700–800 per kg

This price change hurts because chicken was the most affordable protein for my family. It was a regular part of our meals, especially when beef or mutton was already too expensive. Now it feels like chicken has slowly disappeared from our kitchen, and with it, a sense of comfort and normal routine.

$0 earned8mo ago
When staple items like chicken become too costly, it disrupts daily nutrition and family routines, increasing stress and uncertainty. Your story highlights the real impact of inflation on food security and the need for measures to control prices and support families struggling with these rising costs.

Commodity: Gas
Before: Gas bill used to come up to 1,500–2,000
After: Now the same bill has gone up to 6,000–8,000 or even more

Pain:
Gas is the most basic need of our home. Be it cooking or making something for the kids, everything depends on it. Now gas has become so expensive that sometimes the heart sinks after seeing the bill and sometimes you have to think a hundred times before lighting the stove. Inflation has really turned daily life into a ghost. 😔

Gas is essential for daily cooking and family care, so this increase not only strains your budget but also causes real emotional stress. Your story clearly shows how inflation turns everyday life into a struggle, making simple tasks a source of worry.

This is my own written pain — not copied, not AI-generated.
In winter, gas is often missing and water is very scarce, yet the bills keep rising — as if there’s no shortage at all.

In winters, the prices of dry fruits feel like they’re touching the sky. Here, even chilgoza costs almost as much as gold now. What was once a small winter comfort has turned into a luxury. We don’t stop wanting it — we stop buying it. That’s the pain inflation leaves behind.
The price was already sky-high before, but chilgoza has gone up even more now. What used to be a rare treat is becoming almost impossible to afford. Winter snacks don’t feel the same anymore — that’s my #InflationGhost .
Chilgoza was 1500 PKR/kg, now 3500 PKR/kg. Gas bills went from 2000 PKR to 4000 PKR, even when gas barely comes. Water is scarce too. Winter comforts feel impossible now — my #InflationGhost .

Commodity: Rice (Chawal)
Before: Earlier, rice was available for Rs 80–90 per kg
After: Now the same rice is available for Rs 220–250 per kg

Pain:
Rice is a part of our daily diet. Earlier, it was easily available, but now due to inflation, we have to reduce the quantity. When even a simple thing becomes difficult, it really feels that inflation has ghosted a lot from our lives.
$0 earned8mo ago
Rice is a daily necessity for many, and such inflation forces families to cut down on essential portions, affecting nutrition and wellbeing. This sharp rise highlights how deeply inflation is impacting everyday life, turning something simple into a struggle.

Commodity: Sugar (for sweets)
Before Price: Rs. 80 per kg
After Price: Rs. 180+ per kg
Personal Pain:
Gulab jamun is my family’s favorite sweet 😔
Earlier, I used to make it on every small happy occasion, but now sugar has become so expensive that making sweets feels like a luxury.
I really want to make it for my kids, but then I look at the budget and have to stop myself
It feels like even sweetness is getting ghosted out of our lives

It’s truly heartbreaking how inflation is stealing even the simple joys like sweets from our lives. Sugar’s price more than doubling puts a direct hit on celebrations and traditions that bring families together.

🥚 Eggs
Before: Rs. 150 per dozen
After: Rs. 350 per dozen
They used to be the most affordable source of protein, especially for kids. Now they’re slowly disappearing from our breakfast plates.
🍚 Rice
Before: Rs. 150 per kg
After: Rs. 320 per kg
A basic household staple, but we now have to reduce portions to manage the budget.
🥛 Milk
Before: Rs. 150 per liter
After: Rs. 250 per liter
Essential for tea and children, yet buying it daily has become difficult.
🍞 Wheat flour
Before: Rs. 60 per kg
After: Rs. 150 per kg
Roti is the foundation of every meal, and its price hike hurts the most.
⛽ Gas
Before: Rs. 600 bill
After: Rs. 2500+ bill
Even cooking has turned into a calculated decision.
$0 earned8mo ago
What used to be affordable is now forcing people to cut down on nutrition and essentials, which affects health and well-being, especially of children. It’s scary how inflation turns even cooking and eating—things we often take for granted—into tough decisions.

“Vegetables and basic food items are meant for every human being, whether rich or poor, because food is a basic need, not a luxury. Before less prices → Now most high price

My personal pain: But the way prices are rising now, it feels like these simple necessities are slowly becoming items only the rich can afford. The wealthy can still fill their plates without worry, while poor families stand in the market calculating every coin, often forced to reduce quantity or completely skip healthy food. It hurts because something as simple as vegetables, which once supported struggling households, now feels out of reach. Hunger doesn’t choose between rich and poor, but sadly the market does.”

This is my real
