Shang-Chi 2 should lean into Xianxia lore. Here is how it perfectly fits the MCU.
The first Shang-Chi gave us a beautiful taste of wuxia (especially the bamboo forest fight), but the sequel has the perfect setup to go full xianxia (high-fantasy immortal heroes).
Since Marvel is actively developing Shang-Chi 2, incorporating these elements would completely elevate the sequel while staying true to the comics:
The Beacon as a Gateway: The post-credits scene showed the Rings sending a signal. Instead of standard alien tech, this should lead to the Capital Cities of Heaven or a celestial realm inhabited by the Xian (immortals).
Cultivation vs. Magic: Instead of treating the Rings like standard superhero gear, Shang-Chi should have to master them through spiritual qi cultivation.
Dharma Treasures: Treat the Ten Rings like traditional xianxia artifacts that require a soul-bond, unlocking reality-bending elemental powers rather than just blunt-force constructs.
Marvel already masters cosmic and magical boundaries with Doctor Strange and Thor. Blending the high-stakes power scaling of xianxia with the MCU formula is a natural next step. What do you think? Would you prefer a grounded martial arts sequel, or do you want to see Shang-Chi navigating immortal sects and celestial realms like ta-lo?
(I would love to see marvels interpretation of xianxia, I feel many chinese people in china and surrounding nations felt a sort of cultural uncanny valley because it felt like a Disney-fied imitation, there are many ways Marvel can incorporate this genre while keeping the same mcu feel) #video #movies
