My choice for the AUGUST edition (Nr 8 of 12) of the #HumpdayAndChill event, hosted by
None but the Brave, a 1965 anti-war film produced and directed by Frank Sinatra from a screenplay by John Twist and Katsuya Susaki . It is Sinatra’s only directorial effort.
A group of US Marines and a group of Japanese soldiers are stranded on the same uninhabited Pacific island during World War II.
After initial bullet-laced confrontations, the Japanese leader offers water in exchange for the aid of Pharmacist Mate Maloney (Sinatra) whom he has mistaken for a doctor. Maloney amputates a Japanese soldier’s leg and saves his life and peace ensues. But can it last? There are two sides to every war. None but the Brave skillfully shows the heroism of both.
The movie does not finish with "The End" but with " NOBODY EVER WINS ."
What would you do in such a situation – isolated from the conflict of war during wartime? Lay down your arms and support your fellow man OR continue to serve your political leaders’ ambitions, resulting in more bloodshed?
